Verdi Aida

The Verdi Aida (also known as Aida: an opera by Verdi) is perhaps the most famous romantic work of Verdi – though some would argue that Rigoletto is a far superior work. Simply put, however, the Verdi Aida is a work that is often being performed in opera houses today or by opera companies. Pieces from the Verdi Aida are commonly used as recital or graduate pieces of students studying voice in general and opera in particular. The Verdi Aida is described as a grand opera in four acts, and it is a re-imagining of a plot that was first conceived by Auguste Mariette (a French Egyptologist). The libretto of the Verdi Aida was, of course, written by Antonio Ghislanzoni, but it had been the music of Verdi that had given life to this tragic tale.

The Verdi Aida was commissioned by the Khedive of Egypt – Ismail Pasha, though the opera was sadly not performed on the day it was supposed to be performed. Nevertheless, the tale of a princess of Ethiopia being forced into slavery captured the imaginations of all who had witnessed it.

In this section of the site, we will be featuring all the tracks of the Verdi Aida.
